Energy Efficiency

Light Emitting Diode LED

LED is a semiconductor diode that emits light when an electric current is applied in the forward of the device, as in the simple LED circuit - the effect is a form of electroluminescence where incoherent and narrow spectrum lights emitted from the p-n junction.

LED's are widely used as indicators light on electronic devices and higher power applications such as flashlights and area lighting. LED’s are usually a small area (less than m) light source, often with optics added to the chip to shape its radiation pattern and assist in reflection. The colour of the emitted light depends on the composition and the condition of the semiconducting material used and can be infrared, visible or ultraviolet.

The LED’s that we provide and install are:
  • LED down lights.

  • LED linear lights.

  • LED flood lights/High Bays.

  • LED street lights.

  • LED traffic and safety products.

  • LED tunnel lights.

  • LED garden lights.

  • LED dot lights.

  • LED wall washers, and other LED lighting products.

T5 Retrofit SYSTEM

What is an LED tube - LED tube is designed to retrofit into old fluorescent systems, resulting in a high rate of Energy Saving up to 63% with even better lux levels and luminance. It provides a very good solution to upgrade old type fittings using Electromagnetic Ballast to the very latest LED technology.

T5 Retrofits is a collective term for a narrow-diameter fluorescent light tube. They are approximately 3 to 4 times more effective than a standard fluorescent bulb of similar wattage. T5 retro have a lot of benefits to our customers as they are cheaper to install and will cut electricity costs dramatically.

Why use LED tubes?
  • Save on electricity cost.

  • Reduce carbon footprint.

  • Reduce maintenance.

Where can you use LED Tube?
  • Industry sector: Warehouses, Production halls, Industrial.

  • Commercial sector: Airports, Shops, Stores, Malls, Offices, Hospitals, Schools.

PV Generation

The realities of load shedding in South Africa started in 2007 and reoccurred again in March 2014 and the country was on a complete standstill affecting the economy. This reaffirms the fact that electricity remains a central key economic activator.

It is on that basis that as Kokota Holdings (Pty) Ltd we have assessed the criticality of this sector of energy industry in South Africa and we have come up with a solution which will last for a significant part of life time. Hence our PV systems are designed to last longer and reliably so. It is important to note that unlike other continents, Africa is naturally a hotter country with more than adequate sun light – hence it is time for African states to take advantage of natural sunlight as a primary source of energy.

China, where PV had previously been too expensive to be widely adopted, may soon lead the world in generating electricity from PV. Each year since 2006 China has at least doubled the amount of new PV installed nationwide. After installing 5,000 megawatts in 2012, China is number three in the world with 8,300 megawatts of total PV capacity, trailing only Germany and Italy. And in July 2013, the government officially set a new national PV capacity goal of 35,000 megawatts by 2015.

In the IRP2010 of South Africa, the paper is addressing the issue of necessity for energy mix in South Africa and PV solutions is one of the critical solutions suggested.

Using sunlight as a solution will align and adapt to the environmental imperatives of Cop17 climate change response plans and will also be of huge reduction in coal usage and therefore lesser carbon foot print – hence Proteck Engineering has a 30 year plan on how to embark on this market.

Almost all power plants, including solar, are designed to supply alternating current, but solar panels generate direct current (DC), so inverters are used to convert their DC into AC. And that conversion is done so to enable synchronisation process into the national grid – hence our solutions on PV panels includes smart grids designs as well.
